Awards given on the occasion of the International Dance Day
On April 29 at the gala held in the Palace of Arts on the occasion of the International Dance Day professors and students of the Hungarian Dance Academy have been honoured with the professional award of the Hungarian Dancers\' Association. The director of the event was Mr. György Szakály, the rector of the Hungarian Dance Academy. See more information here.

Introduction of the students of the dancer and coach training.

Open Days
Open days are being held at the Hungarian Dance Academy on April 26 - 27, 2013. Site: 1145 Budapest, Columbus utca 87-89. Visitors will have the opportunity to get acquinted with the artist training programme of the Hungarian Dance Academy on the following days: Friday, 26 April between 1.40 - 4.40 pm Saturday, 27 April between 8.00 - 10.30 am. After the class observations short performances will be seen in the Zoltán Nagy Jr. Theatre Hall of the Academy.

András Rónai, the graduating student of the Hungarian Dance Academy is the winner of the 6th Nureyev Ballet Competition!
In the international competition 51 contestants of 19 countries including 15 students of the Hungarian Dance Academy participated between 18 - 22 March 2013. In the final round there were Adrienn Horányi, Nana Koizumi, Riho Okuno, Gergő Balázsi and András Rónai.

Performance in the National Dance Theatre
On 27 February, Wednesday the audience can see the ballet and modern dance faculty students in the full evening performance titled \\\"Future Stars\\\". Besides the graduating dancers of both specialization, the younger students of the Hungarian Dance Academy will also appear in the program. Limited number of tickets are available in the box office of the National Dance Theatre or in the internet.

Professor Emerita title to Maria Bretus
The Senate of the Hungarian Dance Academy awarded the Professor Emerita title to Maria Bretus academy professor on the occassion on her 70th birthday in recognition on her outstanding artistic, educational and training organizer work. Bretus Mária is decorated with the Liszt Prize, Distinguished and Meritorious Artist and founder soloist of the Pécs Ballet - has been illustrious ballet mistress of the Academy up to now.

Qualifying exam open for public
For the very first time the qualifying exam of the graduating class is open for not only parents and relatives but all visitors interested in the event: on Saturday, 16 February 2013, between 10:00 - 13:30. Venue: 14th district, Budapest, Columbus utca 87-89. in the Theatre Hall of the Academy. Tickets are available for 1000 HUF at the children\\\'s assistant in the studio building. We warmly welcome all visitors!

The 26th International Summer Dance Course of the Hungarian Dance Academy will take place between 22 July – 3 August 2013. Classes are held daily from 8:30 am with internationally reknown masters.

Hungarian Dance Academy debuts in Corvin Plaza
We are going to take the dance art to - where most people get about at Christmas season - the plaza! At 2.00 pm on 8 December in the Corvin Plaza at level -1 the students of the HDA will perform representing all specialization of the institute: classical ballet, modern dance and folk dance.

International Ballet Competition Prague
Three of our students participate in the 4th International Ballet Competition Prague to be held between 29th November and 2nd December 2012. Noemi Verbőczi 5th grade student, Orsolya Vitárius 7th grade student and Lea Földi 8th grade student. We wish good luck for all them in the contest.

Nutcracker - introductory theater performances
The audience get acquainted with the story of the Nutcracker by the assistance of the Hungarian Dance Academy students. The approx. one-hour program is especially recommended for young children of kindergartens and lower grade schools. The performances are going to be held on 6 December, at 3.00 and 5.00 pm. in the Zoltán Nagy Jr. Theatre Hall.

Mária Zórándi Folk Dance Festival
On October 26, Friday, for the invitation of the Folk Dance Department and with the support of the Municipality of Zuglo, the Hungarian Dance Academy will have guests from Békéscsaba, Fót and Nyíregyháza: the art secondary schools involved in high level folk dance teaching program have been invited to the joint presentation and vocational symposium.



Future Stars
On 16 November in the National Dance Theatre the future ballet artists of the Hungarian Dance Academy will have their full evening performance. The audience will see details from the ballets Don Quixote, The Bayadere, Swan Lake, Sylvia and The Nutcracker. The three participants of the Prague International Ballet Competition.



Guest appearance in Sweden
Three graduating students of the Hungarian Dance Academy Adél Bálint, Nana Koizumi and András Rónai will have guest appearance on 23 October in Gothenburg. To participate in the international gala to be held in The Lorensbergs Theater, besides the Scandinavian, English and Hungarian ballet schools have been invited. Following the foreign performance, the Hungarian audience will be able to see the young artists on 16 November in the National Dance Theatre, Budapest.

Modern dance peparatory course
The Hungarian Dance Academy announces fee-paying preparatory course on Modern Dance specialization. The entrance exam for preparatory academic studies in the modern dance specialization for the academic year 2013 /2014 will be in January 2013.

The best graduate students of the year
Each year on the International Dance Day, 29th April the Hungarian Dancers Association metes its professional awards. Besides the best choreographers and dancers, the best graduating students are also awarded. In this academic year two students of the Hungarian Dance Academy: Tamás Darai and Zsolt Török were honoured with this prize.

Modern dance performance
The IV. grade modern dance students of the dance artist training department will have their performance on Friday 1 June at 5 pm in the Zoltán Nagy Jr. Theatre Hall of the Hungarian Dance Academy. The programme includes choreographies by Martha Graham, Noémi Kulcsár, Attila Kun, János Lakatos and the students.

Students of the dancer and coach training department will have a performance at 6 pm on Friday 11 May in the Zoltán Nagy Jr. Theatre Hall. The programme includes pieces danced by students of different specializations, so the audience will experience a picturesque variety of several dance techniques.

Posthumous lifetime achievement award
The Hungarian Dancers Association posthumously honoured a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mrs. Mária Jakab-Zórándi, dancer and dance pedagogue awarded by the Gyula Harangozó Prize, rector of the HDA and to Hedvig Hidas dancer, ballet master.

Best graduate student of the year
On the International Dance Day, 29 April, the \\\"Best graduate student of the year\\\" award, founded by the Hungarian Dancers Association, was given two students of the Hungarian Dance Academy: Lilla Purszky specialized in ballet and Júlia Széphalmi specialized in folk dance received the awards.

Election
On April 13, 2011, György Szakály, university professor, holder of the Kossuth Prize and Excellent Artist Award, was unanimously elected by the Senate as rector of the Hungarian Dance Academy, for a mandate of 4 years.
The new rector is expected to take up his duties on July 1, 2011.

Charity performance
There will be a charity performance on Saturday, 9th April at 5.p.m. to support the victims of the Japanese disaster. There are a dozen Japanese students learning in our institute. With the Hungarian students and staff of the Hungarian Dance Academy they try to help to their compatriots in distress.

Folk dance evening
For the performance \\\"Dance, dance, dance\\\" by the graduating folk dance class on 10. March 2011, Thursday at 7.00 p.m. in the National Dance Theatre (I. district, Színház u. 1-3.) tickets are available for 1.500,- HUF in the Hungarian Dance Academy and the National Dance Theatre.

Graduation ceremony
The graduation ceremony of the Institute for Training Choreographers and Dance Pedagogues will take place at 15.00 on the 8th March 2011 in the Zoltán Nagy Junior Theatre Hall of the Hungarian Dance Academy. From 16.30 the performance by the students of the dancer and coach training will be seen.

Scholarship
This year the Ari S. Kupsus Society scholarship was awarded to Barbara Szabó and György Balikó,7th grade students specialized in classical ballet. It was the third time the charity association founded by the Finnish businessman Ari S. Kupsus, living in Hungary, has supported dance artists besides talented singers.

Prix de Lausanne
Five students of the Hungarian Dance Academy are selected by the competition committee to participate in the 39th International Ballet Competition between 1-6 February 2011. Our school will be represented by Adrienn Horányi, Tamás Darai, Kornél Pálinkó, András Rónai and Zsolt Török.

The Hungarian Dance Academy offers the chairs of its enlarged theatre hall to be adopted by dance art lovers, dance education supporters! The name of the donator is to be engraved into the plate fixed on the chosen chair of the theatre hall.

The Nutcracker, a Christmas fairy-tale ballet to Tchaikovsky’s music has earned great success for the last 12 years. The fascinating costumes and scenery were designed by Kentaur. The students of the Hungarian Dance Academy are dancing to Tchaikovsky’s music at the Thália Theatre.

From the ticket sales and other donations (Budapest Japanese School, private donators etc.) of the 20th and 21 st October charity performances altogether 487.000.- HUF were collected. We are going to pass this sum to the people in need right away.

Cinderella - debut in Switzerland
The students of the Hungarian Dance Academy debuted in the Cinderella production in Geneva on February 12, 2010. After its debut in Switzerland, the production was performed in Budapest too.

A Dance Gala is held at 7 p.m. on 11 March at the Hungarian Dance Academy – organised by the Ari Kupsus Salon Concert foundation – for the benefit of the HDA’s students.

The jury has accepted the application of 81 of the 226 contestants for the International Youth Ballet Competition to be held for the 38th time in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Hungarian Dance Academy will be represented by two students, Réka Sári and Shori Yamamoto.

On April 1st, 2009 the Senate of the Hungarian Dance Academy elected folk dance artist Professor Mária Zorándi Jakab as Rector of the Academy for 4 years. She is expected to be installed in her office by May 15th.

In 2008 the New Generation International Youth Ballet and Contemporary Dance Competition was held for the second time in Budapest. The HDA was represented by 30 students among the contestants, who numbered about 100 and 26 of whom managed to get into the second (final) round.
